I’ve hinted that I might be heading out to Los Angeles to work on a couple of shows, and now the first of those looks like it’s finally coming to fruition!
I’ll be out in LA staffing a writers room starting February 21!
While I don’t think the identity of this initial project will be a secret for (too) long, since I’m just one of many folks involved, I also don’t think I’m the person to trumpet it yet. So, for our purposes here (and in keeping with the Far Six theme), we’re going to call it Project Rodeo, or just Rodeo. My hope is to give you as many insights as I can into the inner workings of a writers room, my role in it, and how the collaborative process of such a room differs from my solo novel efforts.
Again, I’ve been expecting Rodeo for a couple of months now, and as excited as I am to get started, I’d be lying if I wasn’t a little apprehensive as well. My work in LA for Bass Reeves was circumscribed; I spent a couple of weeks in the room with the whole team, and then worked remotely (I was still a federal agent then). For Rodeo, I’m ostensibly relocating to Los Angeles for (at a minimum) the next four months, and then whatever time I spend on set after that, as well the second writers room. I’ll be able to pop home now and then, but I’ll be somewhat of a digital nomad for a while, something I haven’t done since I was brand new federal agent, and kept a “go bag” in my car since I never knew if I was coming home on any given night.
Early in my career I worked a massive ocean smuggling case, and was traveling constantly all over the world for weeks on end…but that’s a story for another time.
Anyway, I’ll soon be saying goodbye to this—
And hello to this—
More to come!
As always, feel free to—
Looking forward to hearing more about this job.
