For someone who’s a planner and a scheduler (although not much of a plotter, and there is a difference), I didn’t really approach this whole Substack thing with much of a plan at all.
And I’ll be honest, I’ve never really considered my opinion about writing (or damn near anything else) to be interesting or engaging enough to wax poetic about. That said, I do think I have a unique perspective to share—
The perspective of someone who’s embracing a new career after a very long, very different one;
The perspective of someone who’s had professional publishing success but is far from a bestseller (we call writers like me “critically acclaimed”);
The perspective of someone who has parlayed that into some screenwriting success as well.
I don’t know if what I have to say about any of these things is necessarily novel, but it might be at least be educational for others finding their way down similar paths.
For those of pursuing the creative arts, we’re all in this together.
So, I’ll do my best here to share the good, bad, and ugly of my journey...our journeys. Hopefully I can give insights into the publishing and TV/film industry as I navigate both. There’ll be some talk of craft, some talk of the business—art and commerce—and then whatever else comes to mind. My plan to is to stay free for now and publish weekly on Thursdays, but I’m also working on this idea of releasing some stories and/or book excerpts here as well.
We’ll see.
As always, feel free to share—
